Complete closures of the A1 Maribor - Ljubljana highway wuill be, in the nights from 10 PM to 5 AM:
- between Vransko and Blagovica towards Ljubljana on Wednesday,
- between Blagovica and Vransko towards Maribor on Thursday.
- between Lukovica and Blagovica towards Maribor on Friday.


Due to road reconstruction and the improvement of parking areas (asphalting), a complete closure of the Vršič Pass is planned from 4:00 a.m. on 24 August 2026 until 6:00 a.m. on 25 August 2026.

Access from the direction of Kranjska Gora will remain possible at all times as far as Erjavčeva Koča.

Parking in the Vršič Pass area will be prohibited during the complete closure.

Users will also be informed of the complete closure of Vršič Pass via the existing OPEN/CLOSED signs, the variable-message sign from the direction of Kranjska Gora, and traffic signs at the barriers from the directions of Kranjska Gora and Trenta.

August Tourist Traffic Season

 

We are entering the peak August holiday travel period. Heavy traffic is expected across Slovenia from Friday to Monday. Holidays are also beginning in parts of Germany (Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria).

Recommendations for drivers:

  • Check traffic forecasts and live traffic information before your trip. Plan your route, including possible detours.
  • Travel well-rested, bring enough non-alcoholic drinks, and schedule regular breaks.
  • In case of a vehicle breakdown, follow safety procedures: use a warning triangle, wear a reflective vest, move behind the safety barrier if possible, and call 0386 1518 8518 for assistance.

Roadworks and maintenance activities are ongoing on motorways and other roads throughout Slovenia. Temporary lane closures may occur, so please follow traffic signs and stay informed about traffic conditions on your route.

Gradual introduction of the new Entry/Exit System (EES) at the external Schengen border

On 12 October 2025, Slovenia and other EU countries will start implementing the Entry/Exit System (EES) at the external Schengen border, in accordance with Regulations (EU) 2017/2226 and 2025/1534. Change in toll rates for the Karavanke Tunnel and exceptional transports

As of January 1, 2026, the toll for using the Karavanke Tunnel for vehicles with a maximum allowed weight of up to 3.5 tons will increase by 20 cents – from the current €8.80 to €9.00. More at the link dars.si.
