Traffic forecast until 20 June 2019

Posted by Blog Author Friday, June 14, 2019 5:23:00 AM

At the end of the week, we can expect increased traffic from urban centres to tourist destinations. Holidays in Croatia and Hungary have also begun. Larger congestion is especially expected on Sunday afternoon. Monday will also see increased traffic. We also expect congestion at border crossings.

We would like to warn drivers of increased traffic on Thursday, 20 June, when several European countries will celebrate a holiday and thus have an extended weekend (Croatia, Austria, a large part of Germany, Switzerland, Poland).

Planned works

The scheduled timeline of construction works in removing toll booths and the reconstruction of roads by the end of July 2019 here.

A1, A5, motorways and the Maribor eastern bypass

The motorway entry point at Blagovica on the Vransko - Blagovica motorway section in the direction of Maribor will be closed by 30 June until 5 p.m. A diversion during the full road closure will run on the parallel state road. The transport of special cargo during the full road closure will not be possible! The full road closure will be in place in all weather conditions. The entry and exit roads at Blagovica in the direction of Ljubljana will also be closed, from 14 June as of 7 a.m. to 30 June from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Due to the demolition of the toll station and renovation of the road, the road closure between Vransko and Šentrupert is approx.4 km long. Traffic runs in two narrowed lanes in both directions. The scheduled completion date of the works is in the second half of July.

A full road closure is expected until 19 June 2019 on the A1 motorway sections between Dragučova and the Maribor east junction in the direction of Šentilj and on the A5 motorway section between Lenart and Pernica in the direction of Ljulbjana, due to the restoration of the bridge over the Drava river, the Malečnik tunnel, the Vodole tunnel and the Vodole I-V viaducts.

A1, motorway

Construction works are taking place on the road section between Razdrto and Gabrk in both directions. Traffic in each direction runs on one travel lane of 3.5 m in width. No special transport of larger dimensions can be made.

The Senožeče junction shall be closed in both directions on the Coastal motorway. A diversion from the motorway from Postojna in the direction of Nova Gorica shall run through the Razdrto junction and from Kozina and Sežana through the Divača junction. The closure will be in effect by the end of June 2019.

A2, motorway

Due to renovation works, traffic between Ivančna Gorica and Bič will be affected in both directions around the Dob toll booth until 30 June 2019.

Traffic between Dobruška vas and Brežice (approx. 8 km in length) runs in both directions on the rightmost half. From 15 to 19 June, traffic will run in the travel lanes. The fast lanes will be closed in both directions, and the full road closure of the Drnovo junction remains in effect (approx. until 19 June).

H4, Vipava expressway

From Saturday, 15 June from 5 a.m., to Monday, 17 June until 5 a.m., the expressway between Vipava and the Nanos interchange will be closed in both directions. A diversion will run on the regional road through the Razdrto junction, and through the Fernetiči pass for goods vehicles.

Due to the construction of test fields for wind protection, traffic on the 7 km stretch between the Nanos junction and the Vipava junction in the direction of Vrtojba (Italy), will mostly run in the fast lane in both directions, one lane in each direction, until the start of July.

As we have pointed out every year, this year will be no exception. We are heading towards summertime. At the start of the summer holidays and prior to the main tourist season, drivers will not be able to fully avoid congestion and the increased traffic on Slovenian roads. We are expecting increased traffic throughout the summer season; the roads with the most traffic will run from the north to the south. As is tradition, the largest congestion is to be expected on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings, when most people start their journey towards the tourist places, whereas on Sunday afternoon, the majority of traffic will run in the opposite direction. Waiting times at border crossings will also increase, as well as the number of goods vehicles on roads.

We advise drivers to avoid peak hours and to start their journey with a high level of tolerance, to have large amounts of drinks with them at all times during these hot days, and to plan and use alternative or other possible routes.
