Traffic Forecast until 26 August 2016

Friday, August 19, 2016 4:30:00 PM

The return of tourists from the Croatian and Slovenian coast will result in increased traffic flow on the roads to Ljubljana (the Primorska motorway), Maribor (the Podravska motorway), and towards Austria (the Štajerska and Gorenjska motorway). As collective holidays are ending in Italy, we are expecting the first major wave of workers returning from Hungary to Italy, and increased traffic on the Štajerska and Primorska motorway, with delays especially on the Ljubljana bypass.

During the weekend, more traffic is to be expected towards the sea; therefore, congestion will also form in the opposite direction. Especially border crossing points with Croatia will be busy in both directions. Congestion on other roads will begin on Friday, mainly on the western Ljubljana bypass and towards Brezovica and Vrhnika. Heavy traffic congestion will also be at the Karavanke tunnel towards Austria, where Austrian border control is causing an extra delay.

Major renovation works are being performed on the A2 motorway between Kranj and Brnik (rest area Voklo - Kranj zahod), which shall take place by mid-September. Traffic runs on two narrow lanes on both sides. On Monday 22, Tuesday 23, and Wednesday 24 August traffic in the direction of the Karavanke will run only on one lane. During this time, exceptional transport will be disabled in the direction of the Karavanke. Kranj-vzhod junction in the direction of Jesenice will be closed until the end of August.

Extensive restoration works are being performed on the H3 north Ljubljana bypass. Traffic between Tomačevo and Celovška road is running both ways on two narrow lanes. From 17 to 25 August (approx.) the Bežigrad junction shall open, whereas Savlje (entry point onto the bypass from the direction of Štajerska) and Šiška industrial zone junction (exit point from the bypass in the same direction) shall close.

Traffic for freight vehicles above 7.5t between Štajerska and Primorska region and vice versa is being redirected onto the eastern and southern Ljubljana bypass.

There are restoration works being performed on the section Arja vas (Žalec)–Šempeter. Until 23 August, traffic will run on both carriageways, as only the fast lanes will be closed. Traffic will run on two (narrowed) lanes in both directions. From 23 August to presumably 7 October, restoration works will be performed on carriageway towards Ljubljana. Traffic will run on the other carriageway, on two (narrowed) lanes in both directions. At this stage, entry point towards Arja vas (Žalec) in the direction of Ljubljana will be closed.

During the closure, presumably on Tuesday, 23 August, Wednesday, 24 August, and Thursday, 25 August traffic will be disrupted in the direction of Maribor. Upon complete closure, drivers are reminded to follow traffic signalisation in the area of the construction site due to the construction entry and exit points.

On Sunday, 21 August 2016, entry point onto the motorway in the direction of Maribor will be closed, namely, at Slovenska Bistrica - south junction (Slovenska Bistrica – jug). Entry point onto the motorway will be enabled via Slovenska Bistrica - north junction. The entry point will be closed due to repairs on asphalt surfaces.

In Maribor, Meljska road will be completely closed due to renovation works of the overpass until 23 August. A detour is arranged. It is impossible to turn off H2 to Melje, from the direction of Pesnice; or off H2 to the city centre, from the direction of Ljubljana.

Planned restoration works on the electrical hardware are being performed on the highway through Maribor. Currently, traffic on the highway through the Maribor tunnel is not disrupted. At the end of August, presumably from including 24 August up to and including 27 August, both carriageways (in the direction of Ljubljana and Šentilj) will be completely closed due to works on the propulsion switchboard and testing of the system; the same closure shall apply as at the first two stages, in addition, entry point from Osojnikova road to the highway will also be closed.

- Mokronog - Zbure, complete – with detours, 20 August from 6 am to 12 pm (trade fair);
- road: R1-218, in Črnomelj, complete closure - with detour, from 20 August 2016 from 6 am to 21 August to 6 am (event);
- Predel - Bovec, complete – no detour, 21 August from 10 am to 11 am (cycling event);

 - Ravne - Kotlje, complete – with detour, 24 August from 7 am to 11 pm (event).

 Due to a trade fair, severe congestion is to be expected in Gornja Radgona and the surrounding area between 20 and 25 August.

Driving on the motorway is safe, if we obey speed limits and maintain safety distance. Obey speed limits; adjust the speed to road conditions. Always wear a seat belt and make sure that all passengers in the vehicle do the same; a child must use an appropriate child car seat. Together we can reduce the number of traffic accidents.
