Traffic forecast until 27 June 2019

Posted by Blog Author Friday, June 21, 2019 2:29:00 AM

Thursday is a holiday day in Austria, a large part of Germany, Switzerland, Poland and Croatia. Therefore, heavy traffic is expected in the direction of the Slovenian and Croatian coasts.

The number of goods vehicles on motorways between Italy and Hungary, and before the borders with Austria (Karavanke, Šentilj), will increase on Thursday and Friday.

Larger congestion is expected in the opposite direction on Sunday afternoon.

The Istria border crossings (Sečovlje, Dragonja, Sočerga), as well as Obrežje and Gruškovje, will have the most traffic.

Tuesday, 25 June is a national holiday in Slovenia and Croatia, therefore the number of goods vehicles will increase on motorways on the day prior to and after the holiday.

Planned works

The scheduled timeline of construction works in removing toll booths and the reconstruction of roads by the end of July 2019 here.

Due to construction works and increased traffic, we expect large congestion and standstills, especially in areas with road closures, therefore we recommend drivers to plan their route accordingly.

A1 Maribor – Ljubljana

The junctions at Blagovica (both entries and exits) on the A1 motorway Maribor – Ljubljana will remain closed in both directions until the end of June.

Due to the demolition of the toll booth and renovation of the road, the road closure between Vransko and Šentrupert is approx. 4 km long. Traffic runs in two narrowed lanes in both directions. The scheduled completion date of the works is in the second half of July.

A1 Ljubljana – Koper

From Wednesday, 19 June, to Friday, 21 June, workers will be removing the roadblock on the A1 motorway Ljubljana – Koper near the Ravbarkomanda viaduct. Traffic in both directions will occasionally run in one driving lane. Congestion is expected.

The Kozina junction (entry and exit in the direction of Koper) will be closed on the A1 motorway Ljubljana – Koper until 29 June. A diversion will run through Divača and Kastelec junctions. A full road closure of two sections is necessary in order to carry out the necessary connection on the motorway section Divača-Kozina-Črni kal. The road closure will remain until the end of June.

Construction works are taking place on the road section between Razdrto and Gabrk in both directions. Traffic in each direction runs in one travel lane of 3.5 m in width. No special transport of larger dimensions can be made.

The Senožeče junction shall be closed in both directions on the A1 motorway Ljubljana – Koper. A diversion from the motorway from Postojna and Nova Gorica shall run through the Razdrto junction, and from Kozina and Sežana through the Divača junction. The closure will be in effect until the end of June 2019.

The entry section of the Slavček junction is closed from the main road onto the H6 expressway in the direction of Izola. The road closure was made due to the increase of traffic flow on the H5 expressway in Koper, and on the G1-11 main road during the tourist season. The section will remain closed until 30 September 2019.

A2 Ljubljana – Obrežje

Due to renovation works, traffic between Ivančna Gorica and Bič will be affected in both directions around the Dob toll booth until 30 June 2019.

Construction works on the road between Dobruška vas and Brežice (approx. 8 km in length) will be concluded on 20 June, and the Drnovo junction will also reopen.

H4, Vipava expressway

Due to the construction of test fields for wind protection, traffic on the 7 km stretch between the Nanos junction and the Vipava junction, in the direction of Vrtojba (Italy), will mostly run in the fast lane in both directions, one lane in each direction, until the start of July.

Some other roads

Change of traffic arrangement for goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes in weight on the Postojna - Jelšane and Kozina - Starod roads, more.

A full road closure is expected at the G2-104 Moste-Mengeš road section between Topole and Mengeš from 22 June to 7 July, due to the construction of a road leading to the Mengeš bypass. A diversion during the road closure will apply for all vehicles and will run on state roads: R2-413, Moste - Duplica, R1-225, Mengeš - Duplica and G2-104 Mengeš bypass. Goods vehicles from Kranj and Jesenice will be redirected before the Vodice exit, in order to relieve pressure on the state roads. They will be redirected through Ljubljana towards Kamnik.

Events in various locations will take place on Tuesday, 25 June, due to the national holiday in Slovenia; perhaps even visits of various senior representatives, e.g. in Podljubelj at the Ljubelj border crossing. We would like to urge traffic participants to take care of their own safety and to be careful on road surfaces. There is also the possibility of increased traffic.

An overview of current construction works and other events on motorways and other state roads is available at the following link:

At the start of the summer holidays and prior to the main tourist season, drivers will not be able to fully avoid congestion and the increased traffic on Slovenian roads.

The correct arrangement of vehicles at potential congestion points on motorways allows emergency vehicles to get to the injured people as fast as possible, thus the chances of survival can be increased by up to 40 percent. When a traffic accident occurs on the motorway, the way the vehicles are arranged has a significant impact on the rescue of the injured parties, therefore always comply with the rules on the arrangement of vehicles at every standstill.
