Traffic forecast until 28 March 2019

Favourable weather has brought appropriate conditions for performing mandatory maintenance and other roadworks, therefore we would like to notify drivers to drive carefully and to monitor the road signs. 

There will be dense traffic in the direction of Planica and back during the ski jumping event between 21 and 24 March.

Expected construction works and road closures

The spring cleaning of vegetation and the environment has already commenced at various locations.

Spherical recording and laser scans will be done between 21 and 24 March 2019 on the motorways in the Lower Carniola and Drava regions; more about it here.

A2, Upper Carniola motorway

There will be a partial closure of the Karavanke tunnel in nights until 25./26. March to 28./29. March between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. due to construction works.  One-way alternative traffic is expected with queuing in front of the tunnel. The maximum transport width is 3.5m.

A1, Styrian motorway; H2, expressway through Maribor; A5, Mura motorway

From Friday, 22 March, at 9 p.m. to Sunday, 24 March, at 4 p.m., and from Friday, 29 March, from 9 p.m., to Sunday, 31 March, until 4 p.m., full closures of the Blagovica - Vransko section in the direction of Ljubljana are expected. The full closure of the respective MW sections will be due to regular maintenance works in tunnels, on pillar walls, on the closed section of the road and due to the conclusion of upgrades to the fire hydrant network in the Jasovnik, Trojane and Podmilj tunnels. Detours will run on parallel state roads.

Due to the replacement and modernisation of signposts, there will be occasional closures of the slow and travel lanes in the vicinity of Slovenske Konjice, so smaller amounts of congestion may be expected during peak hours.

Construction works on the route between Maribor and Pesnica will run until Friday, 22 March, and will resume during the week from 25 to 29 March. Emergency maintenance works are being carried out on the travel and express lanes.

On Sunday, 24 March, from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the direction of Maribor, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the direction of Ljubljana, there will be maintenance works between the Golo rebro and Pletovarje tunnels on the travel lane.

On Tuesday, 26 March, the closure of the travel lane between the Celje-center junction and Arja vas in the direction of Ljubljana is expected between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., due to the maintenance of the asphalt surfaces.

Long-term forecast of works

The Workers Bridge over the river Sava in Kranj will undergo restoration works from Saturday, 23 March, for the period of one year, therefore traffic will run only on one half of the bridge, one lane in each direction. The bridge will be closed for goods vehicles of 3.5 tonnes in weight or more. More information at the link.

Every working day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., alternative one-way traffic can be expected on the road from Izola to Portorož near Strunjan. Congestion is possible until the end of April.

Until 30 April, the road Vodice - Sp. Brnik will remain closed. A detour runs through Moste.
