Traffic forecast until 3 November 2017

Friday, October 27, 2017 12:00:00 PM

Due to the beginning of the autumn holidays and public holidays in the majority of Europe, we are expecting increased traffic mostly to and from tourist destinations in different directions until the beginning of November.

On Thursday, 26 October, it is a public holiday in Austria; therefore, we are expecting an increased number of freight vehicles at the border crossings with Austria on the following day, especially at the Karavanke Tunnel; however, one day before, full rest/service areas on the Gorenjska motorway are expected.

On Wednesday, 1 November, increased traffic is expected around cemeteries; a special traffic regime will be in force at some places and drivers should consider the instructions of the police and other authorities.

However, there is a traffic restriction for freight vehicles exceeding 7.5 t in Slovenia on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Before and after the restriction, increased cargo traffic is expected on the Slovenian motorways and expressways and longer waiting periods for the freight vehicles are expected at the Croatia border crossings.

Due to lower temperatures, the drivers are warned to expect snow on roads over the higher road passes in case of precipitation.

In Croatia, daytime running lights are obligatory from 29 October- more info HAK; in Austria, winter equipment is mandatory from 1 November.

Expected Works

Ljubljana and surroundings

Primorska, A1

During the renovation works of the Unec - Postojna section, in the night from Sunday, 29. 10. from 9 p.m., to Monday, 30. 10., to approximately 7 a.m., a setting up of passing to the opposite driving lane is planned.

On Thursday, 26.10.2017, in the morning, a removal of the complete closure at the Jesenice zahod junction, Hrušica and the rest/service area Jesenice jug towards Ljubljana is anticipated.

The traffic between the Jesenice zahod and Jesenice vzhod junctions will remain two-way on one side of the motorway. Presumably until the mid November 2017, a changed traffic direction for the exceptional traffic is in force. More on the website dars.si.

Closures on some roads

The road Vodice – Moste (Kamniška cesta in Vodice) is closed until approximately 30.11.2017. The detour for vehicles under 7.5 t is on the regional road Vodice - Spodnji Brnik - Moste, for vehicles above 7.5 t on the motorway via junction Brnik - Spodnji Brnik - Moste.

The road over the Vršič pass is closed during working days due to construction works, namely from Monday to Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and every Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.; on Saturdays one-hour complete closures are possible. In Trbovlje on Vodenska cesta, there is a complete closure due to the road renovations until 31.10.2017. The detour is organised on the local road.

Prevention

In case of stopping or traffic congestions on the motorways with two or more traffic lanes for one direction, drivers must immediately create an emergency lane between the two lanes, wide enough for the safe passing-by of the intervention vehicles. Vehicles stopping or standing on the outermost left traffic lane must move to the left as much as possible, also over the border line of the direction road. Vehicles stopping or standing on other traffic lanes must move to the right as much as possible: with change of the law, stopping over the border line of the direction road is allowed, including the emergency lane.

Weather forecast: White frost, fog, the level of snow precipitation is gradually dropping to around 1200 m above sea level.

On Sunday, a cold front is approaching the Alps from the north. It will be changeable and cloudy on Sunday with a south-eastern wind. In the evening or during the night to Monday, light rain is expected in some places in the inner Slovenia. From Monday to Wednesday, dry and cold weather is expected with white frost in many places mostly on Tuesday and Wednesday. There is also some fog foreseen in the lowlands. On Thursday and Friday, cloudy weather with occasional precipitation is expected. The level of snow precipitation is gradually dropping to around 1200 m above sea level.
