Traffic forecast until 5 August 2016

Thursday, July 28, 2016 7:30:00 PM

A weekend with extremely heavy traffic is ahead of us. Increased traffic is expected between 28 and 31 July from Austria and Italy towards Croatia as well as from Italy towards Hungary and from city centres towards tourist destinations. School holidays in German federal countries Bavaria and Baden Wuerttemberg are also starting this weekend. Due to the rthcoming arrival of Italian tourists, we are also expecting increased traffic on coastal roads and border crossings.

In the middle of next week, we are expecting an increased number of goods vehicles in front of the border with Croatia due to the national holiday in Croatia on Friday.

This Saturday, 30 July 2016, traffic will be disrupted in the area of Gorenjska and Ljubljana, due to the ceremony at the Russian Chapel, at which the Russian President will be present. In addition, it is expected that a large number of roads will be closed. We are expecting an extraordinary increase in traffic on all other main and local roads. Show map.

We advise drivers to plan their routes carefully on Saturday, 30 July, due to expected long-lasting road closures and the start of German and Italian school holidays. We do not recommend travelling around the Gorenjska region and the northern part of Ljubljana during the time of the road closures. We advise you to travel early in the morning or late in the evening or to adjust your participation in traffic. It is expected that the Vršič pass will be closed on Friday around 20:00 and the Karavanke Tunnel on Saturday 30 July. Furthermore, a special Decree on road traffic restrictions in the Republic of Slovenia will be issued...more on the DECREE. We definitely recommend listening to and monitoring traffic information as well as taking into account traffic signalisation. More at: Traffic disruptions in the area of the Gorenjska region and Ljubljana.

Congestion is expected both on the last Saturday in July and in August between the end of the A4 Podravska motorway and the Gruškovje border crossing in the direction of Croatia. We advise drivers to take alternative routes. More at this link.

On Friday afternoons, it is expected that there will be congestion along the entire western bypass of Ljubljana in the direction of the Primorska region as well as at border crossings with Croatia. On Saturdays and Sundays, increased traffic is also expected in the opposite direction, from the Croatian and Slovenian coast towards Austria, as well as from other tourist destinations towards the interior of the country. On Saturdays, extended congestion is expected before the Karavanke Tunnel, at border crossings in Istria and Gruškovje. Heavy traffic is also expected towards Hungary. During the congestion, we recommend the use of less congested border crossings, e.g. Dobovec, Zavrč, Sočerga and Petrina. We advise you to travel early in the morning or late in the evening.

PLANNED WORK

H3, NORTHERN LJUBLJANA BYPASS

Extensive reconstruction works are being carried out on the northern Ljubljana bypass. The traffic between Tomačevo and Celovška Road runs on two narrowed lanes in both directions. Exit to Celovška Road and entry to Ind. cona Šiška are closed in the direction of Koseze. Traffic for goods vehicles weighing over 7.5 tonnes between the Štajerska and Primorska regions and in the opposite direction is redirected to the eastern and southern Ljubljana bypass.

A2, PRIMORSKA MOTORWAY

Works on the emergency lane are planned on the section between Logatec and Razdrto (works on the steel security fence). The works will take place until the middle of August from 5:00 to 21:00.

A1, ŠTAJERSKA MOTORWAY

In the section Arja vas (Žalec)–Šempeter extensive reconstruction works are taking place. It is expected that until 23 August the traffic will run on both halves of the motorway, since the fast lanes will be closed. The traffic will run on two (narrowed) lanes in both directions.

H2, EXPRESSWAY THROUGH MARIBOR

In August, DARS will carry out planned reconstruction of the electrical hardware in the covered cut Maribor on the express way through Maribor. The works will begin on Monday and the traffic will run in just one direction. The road will be completely closed for a few days at the end of August. The detour will be arranged via municipal roads. The works will be carried out in the covered cut in Pobrežje just before the road passes over the two-storey bridge over the Drava River. During the first week, the directional carriageway towards Ljubljana will be closed, whereas the directional carriageway towards Šentilj will be closed during the second week. Detours will be arranged via Melje through the centre of the city or via Pobrežje.

A2, GORENJSKA MOTORWAY

We advise drivers not to plan travelling through the Slovenian-Austrian Karavanke Tunnel on the A2 motorway on Saturday, 30 July, since it will be closed in both directions during the day due to a protocol visit.

We would like to warn drivers that an increased number of goods vehicles are expected before the Karavanke Tunnel towards Austria on Monday. During the congestion, the traffic will be also disrupted near the Hrušica exit.

On the Gorenjska motorway, works (arranging intervention crossings) are expected to be carried out between 1 and 6 August between KR - west and KR - east junctions in both directions. Traffic will run on two narrowed lanes.
