Traffic forecast until 18 August 2017

Friday, August 11, 2017 7:16:00 AM

Before us is one of the busiest weekends of this year`s tourist season.

Since it is a holiday in most parts of Europe and in combination with a narrowing of the road on the motorway section between Postojna and Unec, the upcoming weekend is forecast to be one of the busiest weekends in this year`s tourist season. Additional very long delays may occur due to accidents (collisions due to an inadequate safety distance) and vehicle breakdowns.

Many will take advantage of the extended weekend to visit the Slovenian and Croatian coast. We expect the heaviest traffic in this direction on Friday and Saturday. In the opposite direction, the traffic will increase mostly on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

All major border crossing with Croatia, especially Gruškovje and the border crossings in Istria, will be burdened at all times. Congestion can also be expected before the Karavanke tunnel. On 18 August, collective annual leaves will conclude in Italy and, therefore, the traffic from Hungary to Italy will also increase.

ROAD BLOCKS

"Primorska" motorway

As part of the extensive renovation works on the section of the A1 motorway between Unec and Postojna, the traffic is organised in two narrowed lanes in each direction. MORE

On the H4, Nova Gorica - Razdrto between Ajdoviščina and Vogrsko, the traffic is running in two directions on a single carriageway.

Ljubljana Ring Road

Due to the implementation of investment maintenance works, a complete closure of arms A and B of the LJ Bizovik connection to the eastern Ljubljana Ring Road is foreseen from Friday, 11 August 2017, at 9 am, to Monday, 14 August 2017, at 5 am. The LJ Bizovik connection (Litijska cesta) from Zaloška cesta to Litijska cesta and from Litijska towards Malence on the A1 Šentilj - Koper motorway will be closed.

Special warning

Due to the spread of a particularly dangerous African swine fever (ASF) in Europe (not yet established in Slovenia), the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection will hand out leaflets at motorway stopping areas in the following days with the warning to dispose of food waste in closed bins. Food waste can present a serious risk of transferring the disease to animals. The warnings are a preventive measure in order to reduce the risk of disease transfer and, consequently, the enormous economic damage caused by the occurrence of such a disease.
