Traffic forecast until Wednesday, 14 August 2019

Friday, August 9, 2019 6:00:00 AM

Traffic will also increase in the coming week, at the usual summer peak hours: on Friday afternoon and on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Most traffic and traffic jams will be on motorways leading from Austria to Croatia and back. Roads leading from urban centres to tourist destinations will also be very busy.

Longer waiting periods are expected most of the international border crossings with Croatia; in addition to the border crossings in Istria, most traffic is expected at the crossings of Gruškovje, Obrežje, Jelšane, Starod, and Karavanke.

We would like to notify drivers that, due to the national holiday next week (Thursday, 15 August), we expect heavy traffic already on Wednesday, 14 August, due to the extended weekend.

Expected construction works and road closures

H3, Ljubljana and its surroundings

On the north Ljubljana bypass, the Nove Jarše junction from the direction of Koseze to Šmartinska cesta will be closed until 18 August. Clevelandska cesta between Jarška cesta and Šmartinska cesta will also be closed.

The regional road between Sneberje and Ljubljana and Šmartinska cesta (between the roads of Trbeže and Sneberska cesta) is closed. Diversions are signposted.

Closure of Šmartinska cesta: Due to the full road closure, the diversion on the Ljubljana-Maribor motorway and the north Ljubljana bypass is also exceptionally allowed for vehicles without a valid vignette, specifically between the Sneberje and Nove Jarše junctions in the direction of Ljubljana, and between Nove Jarše and Šentjakob from Ljubljana to Maribor.

A2 motorway Ljubljana-Jesenice

Maintenance works are planned to take place on the A2 motorway from Hrušice to Vodice until 16 August in the following periods:

  • 12 August at the Kranj zahod - Naklo road section between 7 a.m. and 12 noon,
  • 12 August at the Hrušica junction / Jesenice zahod,
  • 13 August at the Naklo - Podtabor road section between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.,
  • 13 August at the Lipice junction / Jesenice vzhod,
  • 14 August at the Podtabor - Brezje road section between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.,
  • 14 August at the Radovljica junction.

A2 motorway Ljubljana - Obrežje

Traffic between Ivančna Gorica and Bič will be regulated by switching traffic lanes based on the flow of traffic, until the end of August 2019. Congestion is possible.

H4 expressway through the Vipava Valley

Due to construction works, the Vipava expressway will be closed for the weekend at the following locations:
- Nanos - Vipava in the direction of Nova Gorica from Friday, 9 August from midnight, to Sunday, 11 August until midnight
- Vipava - Nanos in the direction of Razdrto from Saturday, 10 August from 4 a.m., to Sunday, 11 August until midnight
- Selo - Ajdovščina in the direction of Razdrto from Saturday, 10 August from 6 a.m., to Sunday, 11 August until 12 noon
All sections will have a diversion running on the parallel regional road.

The full road closure will be lifted immediately after the conditions to free traffic are met. During the full road closure, a diversion will run via the Razdrto junction and Vipava onto the parallel road.

A1 motorway Ljubljana - Maribor

The Krtina junction will be closed in both directions until 19 August. A diversion during the full road closure will run on the parallel national road. The transport of special cargo during the full road closure will not be possible. The full road closure will be in place in all weather conditions.

Due to the removal of the toll booth and the renovation of the road, the road closure between Vransko and Šentrupert is approx. 4 km long. The C2+2 road closure will most likely be removed on 11 August. After that date, construction works will be carried out only on the emergency lane.

Works consisting of the removal and rearrangement of the area around the Tepanje toll booth are being carried out on the road section between Slovenske Konjice and Dramlje. Traffic on the 2 km long road section runs on one half of the motorway by switching lanes under the »2+1« principle (two lanes in one direction and one in the opposite direction) based on traffic flows.

Until 11 August 2019, the entry point at Slovenske Konjice in the direction of Ljubljana will be closed due to the removal of the Slovenske Konjice toll booth and road renovation works, and the exit point at Slovenske Konjice from the direction of Maribor, until 15 August. The exit point from Celje to Maribor and the entry point in the same direction will be closed until 19 August 2019. A diversion is possible via the junctions Slovenska Bistrica jug and Dramlje, or on the Celje center – Frankolovo – Stranice – Slovenske Konjice road. Construction works in the areas of the Tepanje toll booth and the Slovenske Konjice toll booth will be completed by 19 August.

Congestion is expected in peak hours, especially where traffic runs on one lane.

Novelties:

Certain changes have entered into force on 1 August regarding the restriction of goods vehicles with a maximum permissible weight over 7.5 tonnes at the border crossings with Croatia. For more information, click here.

You can find more information on other road construction works at www.promet.si (mark the “Roadworks” box to the left of the map).

Weather: According to ARSO, we may expect high temperatures with occasional local showers.

Prevention:

Safety distance as defined in the Road Traffic Rules Act: "A driver driving behind another vehicle on the same traffic lane must maintain a distance between the two vehicles which cannot be shorter than the distance which, given the current speed, it travels in two seconds (safety distance) or distance as is defined by the traffic sign."

The definition in layman's terms is accessible in Miha and Janez's presentation
